The girl with the boyish haircut, catching smile and outfits full of color. The master beihnd the posters of Morehonors 2014 and one of the voices of Radio AURA. Kalina Stamatova, a second-year student in AUBG majoring in journalism and mass communications with a minor in fine arts, is an inspiration for everyone who values ingenuity and fresh eclectics in style. Though she generally does not have preferences for pants or skirts, Kalina sometimes likes wearing long skirts and dresses, because they make her feel special and classy. This precious one, she got from the States, and she likes it especially because of the cool pattern and interesting design. Kalina is not the kind of person who would care much for brands. Brands might matter only for shoes because they stand for quality. For her, the most important thing is for her clothes to feel comfortable. In addition, she loves colors. Kalina is not picky in terms of fabric. The only material that she would really never consider wearing is polyester, because in her opinion it neither feels or looks good.

I don’t’ really care much about fabrics. I don’t even know the different names of the different fabrics.

For Kalina, accessories are what makes the outfit. She loves wearing different kinds of necklaces, earrings, shades and scarves.

The one thing I rarely wear is bracelets because my wrists are tiny, so my bracelets slip off.

Kalina is a girl who chooses her outfits according to her mood. For her, it does not matter whether it is going to be comfy jeans or girly skirt. It depends on how she feels that particular day. She is not scared of wearing unconventional crazy things, and she always goes for the bright and catchy color.   As Kalina admits herself, she is still in the process of building her own style. When she was 16 she went through a phase of boyish look when wearing hoodies, baggy jeans and sneakers was on her style agenda. Soon after this period passed, Kalina realized that she should look more like a lady and started filling her wardrobe with more feminine clothes.   By the time the amount of dresses and skirts started to exceed the jeans and hoodies, Kalina realized that this new solely girly style is still not an accurate reflection of her self.

...so I just started buying different stuff and experimenting in combining them. My style just came out of nowhere. I don’t think it was developed. It just happened or I just don’t remember it developing.

For Kalina, it is important to dress up and everyone should be able to dress up as much as they want. In her opinion it is absolutely okay for a girl to look amazing in just jeans and a T-shirt.

As much as we don’t want to admit it, I think the way you dress yourself and the way you present yourself opens you up to the world and shows a piece of you through your clothing.

Kalina does not have a particular source of inspiration. Actually, her biggest source of ideas in terms of fashion are her friends. She has always been around people with a sense of aesthetic since she graduated from an art high-school in Blagoevgrad. In her opinion, though Bulgarian fashion as a whole is not very stylish, things have been improving lately.

People are starting to shop in high street stores like HnM and New Look and that makes it better. But there are still, you know, some people have it and some people don’t, and the mass in Bulgaria just follows the trends that are set by the chalga singers and that’s just sad. But the situation is getting better.

Kalina is not a huge fan of high heels. She used to wear them more, but she sprained her ankle two years ago, which made it difficult for her to walk in heels for a long time. In her opinion, though, heels are needed only for special occasions when a girl has to simply get in the car, get out of the car, sit for a while, and then get into the car again.

...and compared to most of my friends, I’m tall and when I put high heels I get even taller and they would get pissed off.

Though Kalina is not judgemental and is very tolerant, she does pay attention to the way people dress before she talks to them.

That’s exactly why I said that you put a piece of you in the way you dress, because it is just…you feel it if you’re gonna click with a person or not just by the way he/she is dressed. This is how I feel about it.

Kalina is a fan of reading, drawing, psychology and advertising. She often starts reading five books at the same time, but never manages to finish all of them. She has been living on the AUBG campus since 2010.

What makes AUBG special are the people in it. Though a lot of time should pass until it becomes a serious institution, AUBG is still our special place.
