When talking about the Kardashians, the first words that come to mind are “fame, drama, controversy, money.” There is no doubt that they are well-known when it comes to getting themselves into trouble.
This is further reflected in some of the people they have dated or been married to. The following names are some of of celebrities the who have been with a Kardashian/Jenner:
24-time Grammy Winner, rapper, and producer Kanye West, 2-time NBA Champion and 2011 Sixth Man of the Year Lamar Odom, 2016 NBA champion Tristan Thompson, 2018 MVP and 11-time NBA All-Star James Harden, Former Number 1 pick Blake Griffin, and Former boxer and model Younes Bendjima.
Many have reported that dating a Kardashian presented a difficult time for them due to the constant media attention that comes with that kind of life. James Harden, for example, briefly dated Khloe Kardashian in 2015, but according to him, it was the “worst year of his life.” Rashad McCants, whom she dated in 2005, did not have nice words to say about his romance with the star, and blamed his failed career on her — “Without that situation in play, I’m a $60-70 million player,” Rashad told Charlotte Observer.
It would be rude to assume that the Kardashians are entirely responsible for the downfall of most of these people. Everyone has their own struggles in life, but perhaps the toxic atmosphere and constant spotlight that shines on the family were too much to handle. There are reports of paparazzi appearing out of nowhere when the Kardashians were simply having dinner or going to the movies.
Yet the hunger for fame and publicity can create a harmful environment that damages reputations. Shame is turned into headlines and headlines into profits. So, is the "Kardashian Curse" real?
Kris Humphries may have been married to Kim Kardashian for just 72 days, but following their rocky romance, Kris’ reputation was tarnished. People no longer recognize him as a renowned basketball player, but instead, as the villain who married Kim for just 72 days. He discussed his declining reputation in an essay for The Players’ Tribune. “There’s definitely a lot about that world that is not entirely real. But our actual relationship was 100 percent real. When it was clear that it wasn’t working…what can I say? It sucked,” he said.
Kim Kardashian’s lesser-known ex-husband, Damon Thomas, is yet another case of the "Kardashian curse.” Unfortunately, there are no photos of Kim and her first husband together, but here is what you need to know: She allegedly got married on to him while on ecstasy. Later, Damon said he was not a fan, telling In Touch back in 2010 that Kim is a “fame whore.” He was married to her in the early 2000s, and following their rocky divorce, he filed for bankruptcy. Damon has a debt of $4 million.
Another man involved with the Kardashian-Jenner family was none other than Devin Booker, basketball player for the Phoenix Suns. Kendall Jenner’s boyfriend at the time dated her for two years, having successfully kept their relationship out of the public eye. It was his devastating loss during the NBA Finals in 2021 that finally made their affair talk of the town – and for all the wrong reasons. Devin’s poor performance was blamed on the Kardashian “curse” by fans on Twitter(now X).
2026 has not exactly been a good year for Timothée Chalamet. It all started when he said opera and ballet are basically “dying” art forms that people do not really care about anymore. The internet did not take that lightly. Theater kids, dancers, and even celebrities came after him. The backlash snowballed, and people claimed he sabotaged his own campaign.
His film, Marty Supreme, scored multiple nominations but walked away with nothing, and Chalamet lost Best Actor to Michael B. Jordan. Because the internet loves a conspiracy theory, people immediately put the blame on Kylie Jenner. The “Kardashian curse” is now being blamed, with fans joking that dating her sealed his path to failure.
The Kardashian curse comes about since the family acts as a catalyst for the negative energy that comes with being famous. Their charm alluringly pulls famous people into a trap they seemingly cannot escape. The “Kardashians” rose from rags to riches and are simply playing the game by the rules, doing everything to stay at the top.
