The Downfall of the Beckhams

One of the most famous Hollywood families is falling apart.

More than two months have passed since Brooklyn Beckham publicly announced that he is no longer communicating with his whole family. The decision came after many ongoing problems with his parents, the ex-pop star and current fashion designer Victoria Beckham and one of football’s legends, David Beckham.

But that is not just old gossip, it is an example of the fake reality Hollywood is promoting. Brooklyn showed what may be hiding behind the red carpets and shiny life is a toxic family environment, strong PR, and overall, an unrealistic life.

This got me thinking. What is really going on behind my social media feeds? What people am I idealising?

For the last two decades, the Beckhams have been the unofficial “royal family”, thanks to their fame. They started as a power couple between a singer and a footballer, but grew into a whole brand.

On their social media, they picture themselves as the ”perfect” family - successful, happy and, very united. It does not matter whether it is a personal event or a big red carpet one, the Beckhams are always together. David, Victoria, their four children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, and often the children’s significant others.

When someone uses the expression “Too good to be true,” I think about the Beckhams with all their love, money and perfect life, and I believe that is the same for most people. Because of that, when Nicola Peltz did not wear a dress designed by Victoria Beckham on her wedding day with Brooklyn Beckham, rumours about problems in the family paradise started. Quickly, though, they were extinguished with the help of the really strong and really good PR of the family.

More big happy family posts on Instagram later, people once again started to notice the absence of the newly married Beckhams - they were absent from the celebrations for David’s 50th birthday.

The new girlfriend of Romeo Beckham, Kim Turnbull, also added fuel to the fire of family downfall speculations as she appeared to be Brooklyn’s ex-girlfriend from high school.

Rumours say that in June 2025, Brooklyn and Nicola met with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and later on, even hired the same crisis team that handled the royal couple's disintegration to manage their own situation.

Other important events in the following months also highlighted the growing distance within the family, as some family members were noticeably absent. These included Brooklyn and Nicola’s vow renewal, where no one from the Beckhams was seen and the premiere of Victoria Beckham’s documentary, which was missed by the young couple. Fans even spotted the absence of Brooklyn and his wife in the whole documentary.

The culmination of the saga came in December 2025, when people saw that Brooklyn no longer followed his family on Instagram, and a few articles stated that. Then, Cruz, the third brother, posted a screenshot of such an article on his Instagram story and wrote: “NOT TRUE! My mum and dad would never unfollow their son… Let’s get the facts right. They woke up blocked… as did I.”

A month later, there was finally a denouement when Brooklyn Beckham posted a series of Instagram stories sharing his side of the story. There, he said that he has no other choice but to speak for himself because of the things that his family posted in the press. He said that his family controls the public image they have really strictly and that they are consistently disrespecting him and his wife.

He also added that his mother danced “inappropriately” with him on his wedding day and completely stole his and Nicola’s romantic moment.

David and Victoria still posted stories for Brooklyn’s birthday at the beginning of March, but no one from the whole family responded to his accusations directly.

What makes Brooklyn’s claims particularly significant is not just the family drama, but the suggestion that the image was prioritised over genuine relationships. If “Brand Beckham comes first,” as Brooklyn says, then the family itself becomes second.

This is not just a story about a celebrity spat, this is an example of the fake world we live in and why it affects everyone.

The Beckhams have spent years presenting a perfect image, carefully built through PR and social media. But when that image starts to crack, it reveals something important - what we see online is often not real, just well-managed.

That matters because people do not just watch celebrities, they compare themselves to them. Because of that comparison, people start to believe that they should also have that glamorous, perfect life, which is unrealistic. These expectations steal from people’s real personal experiences and their happiness, and make them feel constantly not enough.

In the end, this story reminds us that not everything nor everyone is perfect and that people should not compare their real lives to the carefully crafted perfection they see online, because, as the Beckhams showed, this perfection is not true.
