Good news for winter sports lovers on campus – a new club devoted to skiing and snowboarding has appeared. Winter Junkies was launched just last Thursday, Nov. 14, and has already gathered close to 50 members. “The purpose of the club is to gather the people who enjoy winter in AUBG,” Rosen Stratkov said, president and founder of the club. “This includes mostly the winter sports, but also everything else for example snowball fight. We will go to the mountains and either ski or snowboard.” The club plans to organize trips for its members to the multiple winter resorts near Blagoevgrad. They will initially focus on Kartala, near the Bodrost resort, which is only about 40 km away from town. However trips to Osogovo, Borovets and Pamporovo are also kept in mind, “as one of the places with the best freestyle parks in Bulgaria,” Stratkov said.
Winter Junkies will also offer workshops for beginners on different aspects - from equipment selection to riding techniques. The club president said there are even plans for some of those workshops to be on the lawns around campus if there is enough snow. While the recruitment was done last week, people can still join the club as long as they are experienced or willing to learn. All members; however, have to provide their own skiing or snowboarding equipment.
