To help and support those in need is the main goal of the PTPI “Better Community Club” at AUBG. At the beginning of this week, the club organized its first Charity Bake Sale for this academic year and donated the money earned to a local girl in need. optimized-img_9258 The charity event was held on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 10-11. During these two days the members of the AUBG community had the chance to stop by Balkanski Academic Center or by the main lobby of Skaptopara 1, to grab a cookie or a piece of cake, and thus to help the “Better Community Club” in their endeavor. optimized-img_9238   optimized-img_9246The Charity Bake Sale is organized annually and aims to help local children in need. As always, the colorful muffins and the smell of banitsa with cheese tempted a lot of people around. This year the members of the club were helped in the baking by professors as well as by AUBG students and their families. The collected money was given to a girl from a local school suffering from cancer. Her identity is kept confidential at the request of her parents. The donation of 590 BGN will cover the family’s travelling expenses needed for chemotherapy in Sofia.
“The mission of the club is to enhance friendship through educational, cultural, and humanitarian activities involving the exchange of ideas and experiences,” commented Jorgjeta Marko, the president of the club.

The food is donated to the church, while the clothes are collected and distributed by the Municipality of Blagoevgrad. In November, the “Better Community Club” will celebrate its 10th Anniversary. Everyone will be invited to the event including notable alumni and people who have helped throughout the years. At this time of the year, the club's members also starts its regular visits to the two social homes in the town of Blagoevgrad. Also, the annual Christmas concert "Bright Little Stars," in which the children from the social homes participate, will be held in December. “This year we are planning to make the concert a little bit different and to include students as well,” explained Jorgjeta Marko.
Another Charity Bake Sale will be organized prior to the concert. The goal will be to collect enough money to cover the expenses for the event as well as for the charity dinner for the kids after it. Every year the members of the "Better Community Club" also put a Christmas tree on campus, on which they hang cards with the wishes of the children from the local social homes.
