AUBG’s Better Community Club (BCC) is going to spread some pre-Christmas cheer on Tuesday, Dec. 4, with its traditional concert “Christmas Lights.” Blagoevgrad’s residents and AUBG students can enjoy the event at 7.30 p.m. in “Peyo Yavorov Hall.” Diana Khismatullina, Vice President of the BCC Club, said the little Christmas lights of the concert are going to be residents from the home for children without parental care “St. Nikolay Mirlikiisky” and the family-type center for accommodation, the temporary residence in Blagoevgrad,  which BCC members visit on a weekly basis. The children are going to perform well-known Bulgarian folk songs and children’s songs.  Additional guests are going to be the members of the folk ensemble “Biser.” There will be no entrance fee. “This year we have a professional musician who helps the kids with their rehearsals,” Teya Vesselinova, the president of the BCC club, said. “He is also going to play at the concert. The kids are more excited than ever during the rehearsals.” “We are urging as many AUBG students as possible to come to support the kids because they have been preparing for quite a while,” Khismatullina said. “I hope people can come. They [the children] are all so sweet, and they smile all the time. You can’t tell they lack parental care.” Khismatullina said the BCC club organized a bake sale to gather enough money for the organization of the event. The club offered different baked goods provided by faculty members, the “Bon Appétit” Club and BCC members. The sale was very successful as the club gathered more than 500 leva, according to Khismatullina. The money will be spent for the decoration of the hall, costumes for the children, group dinner, and small presents for the performers, as they associate the event with Christmas. Members of the club have also been visiting these children on weekends for three or four years now, Khismatullina said. These visits are part of BCC’s “Social Homes Project” which takes place throughout the academic year. “People have this stereotype of children without parental care that they are closed and angry. But it’s not like that,” Javkhlan Enkhbayar, the PR person for the BCC club, said, “I think by going there we help them not become aggressive…They become more self-confident.” “That’s one of the purposes of the concert, we want them [the children] to open up,” Khismatullina said. According to her, the concert is the climax of the club members’ weekly visits and efforts to engage the children in activities outside of their everyday environment with people outside of their surroundings.
