The Psychology Club was created by AUBG students eager to find what is beyond the limit of the human mind. The club was founded last year by the third-year students Brian Shkodrani and Ketevan Chincharadze with the help of professor Ronald Harvey. This semester it was taken over by the second-year student Milana Mukhametshina and the first-year student Ainagul Aitbaeva.
“I had the idea of the club since I was a freshman,” explained Shkodrani, co-founder of the Psychology Club. “Then I went to talk to prof. Harvey and he told me that Ketevan had told him that same idea, so he put us together and we started working on constitution and everything,” he said.
The club is separated into three departments - content, social media, and logistics. The content division, also referred to as the creative team, takes care of brainstorming ideas for future projects. The social media team increases the awareness of the club, whereas logistics oversees the organization of psychology-related events on campus and searches for potential sponsors. Now, they are planning to do a lot more. One of the ideas includes setting up social observations in which participants will research on a specific topic and present their findings at a conference. The project will be based on theories and the observations will show who relates to the theory and who does not.
“I wanted to be a part of the aspiring community who tends to advocate and promote the creation of psychology major as well as expand humans’ understanding in the field of psychology by bringing in speakers and watching psychology-based movies,” said Mukhametshina, co-president of the club.
On the club's weekly meetings, the members discuss potential activities and watch psychology themed movies. Afterwards, they examine the messages from the movies, their relation to psychology and how they can be used in everyday life. They are planning to make these movie screenings open to everyone on campus.
