Enthusiastic and beaming, Boriana Shalyavska received what she calls an "early Christmas gift" in December, 2012 - she was named the Admissions Office Director of AUBG. Ever since 2004, she has been an employee of the university, having worked for the Admissions, Financial Aid and President’s Office.  Boriana Shalyavska, a native of Blagoevgrad, graduated from the South-Western University with a Master’s degree in Education Management. More recently, she completed a second Master’s in English philology with flying colors. She has lived in the USA for four years, but she prefers Bulgaria. Her husband is employed in the private business sector, and together they have raised their two children: a five-year-old daughter and a son who graduated from AUBG last year. Apart from her family and friends, Boriana values work the most. She enjoys working with her team, especially when she welcomes them after a recruitment trip to a school or country, and she sees them almost jumping for joy. She describes her job as dynamic and challenging: “The first thing that someone says to me when they enter the office is “I have a problem.” Solving these problems at the end of the day, somewhat surprisingly even to me, is a wonderful feeling. The gratification of being useful.” Her goal is to create a positive and friendly atmosphere in the office and make everyone feel part of the whole AUBG community – students, faculty and staff alike. She believes that although the Admissions Office sets the groundwork for all other staff departments of the university, it cannot achieve its goals by itself. The Admissions employees may be the initiators of ideas, but it is with the help of students, faculty and colleagues that they are able to put these ideas into effect. Therefore, she would like to ask eager enthusiasts – be they students or non-students – to participate and share their ideas in a “fair” that is going to take place in BAC 103 on January 30, 2013. She wishes all students a happy and successful spring semester, and hopes that they will come often to the office (especially once it's transferred to the new Student Center) when they need guidance or information.
