Table Tennis Tournament at AUBG
More than 33 AUBG students signed up to participate in the Table Tennis Tournament, held in the early afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 5. The event was organized by Residence Life and took part at the America for Bulgaria Student Center (ABF).
The tournament started slow and while some were playing, others were helping themselves with the treats, provided by the organizers. After the second round, however, the game heated up. All 33 participants were men; few ladies had signed up, but they either didn’t show up, or were not allowed to join, because they missed the sign up deadline.
Rackets and new balls were provided to the players, who played on four tables, switching after each game. Each of the players had to count the score for themselves. In the first round, competitors played two out of three sets, and in the second and the third – three out of five. The final three players were: Anastas Pushkarov, Nekruz Mamadalizoda and Chingiz Smakov.
The semi-final between Mamadalizoda and Smakov was heated enough to gather the audience around the tennis table. Both players entertained the audience by using different techniques. Excitement grew even further at the final, when Pushkarov defeated Mamadalizoda.
At the end of the tournament, Georgi Georgiev, one of the organizers, rewarded the three finalists with custom-made T-shirts. They all shook hands and posed for a picture together.
