The 85th Academy Awards ceremony took place on Feb. 24 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California. The event was hosted by the actor and animator Seth MacFarlane. Despite all the predictions of the critics, this year's ceremony set an example of a hard competition between the nominees, and brought many surprises. The winner in the category Best Film turned out to be Ben Affleck’s “Argo”. Affleck’s film won two other Oscars as well - for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing. The winner managed to sweep away Steven Spielberg’s “Lincoln” with 12 nominations and “Life of Pi” with 11 nominations for which Ang Lee got the prize for Best Director. The award for Best Actor went to Daniel Day–Lewis for his role in “Lincoln” which made him the first man to receive three Best Actor Academy Awards in the history of the Oscars. The film “Lincoln” also won the Oscar for Best Production Design. The Best Actress award was won by the young and talented Jennifer Lawrence for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook. Lawrence who is well-known by her performance in “The Hunger Games” stumbled up the stairs, tripping over her dress, and fell on the way to the stage. The momentous embarrassment of the incident was played off by Lawrence during her acceptance speech. Furthermore, Quentin Tarantino’s film “Django Unchained” was not left without recognition and won the awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Christoph Waltz's role. The award for best supporting actress went to Anne Hathaway for her performance in “Les Miserables”. The film also won the award for Best Make-Up. The award for Best Documentary went to “Searching for Sugar Man”- a touching story about the life of a forgotten American rock musician.
