An insane AUBG Olympics workout got people jumping and sweating this Wednesday in the ABF Sports Hall. Around 40 people showed up to an event organized by Mariya Popova and Panayot Apostolov, members of the Olympics crew. They took the role of instructors and guided the enthusiasts through an hour-long series of cardio exercises. The routine they showed was based on the Insanity Workout, developed by the professional fitness instructor Shaun T. “The idea for the event actually came from Panayot […] We decided to organize it because we saw that there would be interest,” said Popova. She added that Insanity and other similar workouts have turned into a trend on campus, which is a clear sign that people want to be more active.

“I have been doing Insanity for over a month now, but in smaller groups. I loved the atmosphere here. It’s easier to practice with more people, you kind of support each other,” said fourth-year student Teodora Toneva after the workout session was over. Insanity is an interval workout and is based on the fact that your heart rate shoots up, and then is at rest for a few seconds, before it shoots up all over again. This is said to be the best way for burning excess fat.

“I have been doing it for two months now and I actually gained like 2 kilos but in muscles. It’s not about losing weight it’s about how you feel. And yes, I do feel and look better,” Popova said. The Olympics instructor duo recommended some other programs AUBG-ers may consider to get in better shape for the upcoming summer like Focus T25, The Asylum and P90X, which is actually more suitable for boys.

This is the first time the Olympics crew has organized an event of non-competitive character. Members of the club assured all people interested that if there is interest, they will do a similar event again. No matter what you do, in Popova and Apostolov’s opinion, it is extremely important to stay active and healthy.
