Enthusiastic students established AUBG’s new math club this Wednesday, Oct. 2. The name it was given is M.A.T.H. – abbreviated from "Make Amazing Things Happen." The idea to form such a club is shared by five AUBG students, majoring in mathematics – Kristian Dimitrov, Hieu Nguyen, Zlatko Joveski, Ina Hajdini and Evisa Lumani. The first meeting was held this Wednesday, Oct. 2, in room 203 in BAC. The founders of the club gave a presentation and showed their audience how fun and useful mathematics can be. They also provided interesting examples by organizing games or showing fun demonstrations.   The lecture was attended by most of the math professors, including the department chair, Tatyana Ivanova.Kristian Dimitrov introduced the goals and objectives of the club: "The mission of M.A.T.H. is to create a vibrant mathematical community at AUBG, which inspires the mind, expands our knowledge, and uplifts the spirit," he stated. Dimitrov also provided examples for the new members. One of them required four volunteers, among which was prof. Ganchev. He, together with three other new members, had to hold a sheet with a ball on it, while Kristian showed how a smaller ball forms a conic while rolling around the big one. Kristian showed how a 60 cm pizza can be divided into equal slices, and after that demonstrated it on an actual pizza. There was a slice for everybody who attended the meeting. M.A.T.H. is planning on organizing a lot of fun math-related events and presentations for the future and is open to any student interested – no matter what major.
