JMC Vibes Spread Around Campus
The annual JMC reception gathered enthusiastic and creative members of the faculty and students of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department.
The event was held in BAC Auditorium on Sep. 23 where the faculty and students gathered to discuss the department’s goals and present various clubs on campus. The reception was opened by Dr. Lynnette Leonard, the new department chair. Leonard expressed her gratitude to Prof. Melody Gilbert, the previous chair, and shared her excitement to continue Gilbert’s work.
Leonard also introduced the new goals that she would like the department to achieve during the academic year. They include communication between faculty and students, connection between the past and current students of the department, as well as connections between the students and future employment opportunities and promotion of the work of the department. After her speech, Leonard gave the word to the JMC faculty and to the University President Kevin Aspegren. “When someone is coming from outside, JMC department is a model,” Aspegren said.
As the tradition follows, JMC-related university clubs introduced their activities and announced their recruitment campaigns. This year there were 14 clubs and organizations: AUBG Daily, AUBG Talks, Radio Aura, DeFacto, JMC Rocks, Fly in the Head, InFocus, More Honors, Office of Communications and Marketing, The Purple, The Society of Professional Journalists, AUBG Doc Club, TEDxAUBG and Verve.
After the presentations students and faculty members stayed for a brief cocktail.
