On Thursday, April 23, students, professors and alumni gathered once again in Piano Bar Limited to celebrate the spirit of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department. The theme of this year's celebration was the fairy-tale "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland". This year the event was organized for the 12th time . As usual, it was divided in two parts. The first part of the event was a cocktail party, organized exclusively for people associated with the JMC major or campus media. The second part was an after party, which was opened for all students. The vast part of the preparations for the event took place within the last 48 hours before the ceremony, according to a fourth-year student and one of the organizers, Ayna Pirkuliyeva. "It's a tradition - we get together for the last night before the party (and by night I mean the whole night, starting at dinner, until it's time to go to classes the next day) and cut out the props for the photo booth, export the videos, prepare the awards, finish up the script..." she said. "Unfortunately, less people showed up than last year, which was a surprise, because last year's party was amazing - many students and alumni said that it was the best JMC Rocks they have seen yet - so we were expecting a bigger crowd this time."  During the JMC Rocks celebration video profiles of  the graduating JMC students were shown. The seniors answered variety of questions about their inspiration, favorite memories, the future they envision for themselves, and other things that they have learned or noticed throughout the years spent at AUBG. Along with the video profiles, the awarding of the most prominent and active students of AUBG for their contribution to student media took place. This year the awarded students were Katarina Duknic (SPJ AUBG Chapter), Ana Devdariani (AUBG Documentary Movie Club), Lisar Morina (More Honors), Heidi Pullyard (Defacto), Katalina Dimitrova (AUBGTalks), Evgeniya Samsonova (The Purple), Dimitria Vitanova (The Bubble), Vesselina Apostolova (AUBG Daily), and Tomislav Marinov (Radio AURA). "I kind of saw it coming when she [Dimitria Vitanova, the President of SPJ AUBG Chapter] was announcing it, but not before the actual party," said fourth-year student Katarina Duknic after receiving the award for her outstanding contribution to the SPJ AUBG Chapter. Natalia Shirshova, a first-year student, attended JMC Rocks for the first time.“I think that it's great that they honor people with great achievements in the Department," she said. "It encourages you to contribute more so that one day you can be the person standing on stage. Besides, it is always fun to gather in Piano Bar with friends.”
