AUBG Documentary Club screened the award winning documentary “Blood Brother”, directed by Steve Hoover on Monday, March 24 . The documentary tells the story of Hoover’s best friend, Rocky Braat, who volunteers at an Indian AIDS orphanage. Braat discovered the place while traveling throughout India. He felt so inspired and touched by the children that he decided to stay and help. ”Blood Brother” is a blend of archival and present-day footage, which portrays the striking reality of the veryday life of AIDS/HIV positive kids in India, who above anything else, need their hope in the future restored. The documentary is filled with touching cases, like the young boy who came so close to death that he could not open his eyes, speak or move because of the pain. But against all odds, he slowly came to life thanks to Rocky, who for four months nursed him and sat by his side every step of the way. Vessela Popova, a junior at AUBG, shared that to her the most memorable scene in the documentary was “when one of the girls was asked what is love and she answered "to make somebody who is sad happy." ” [caption id="attachment_19922" align="alignleft" width="325" caption="Rocky and the kids from the orphanage"][/caption] “It was touching. I didn’t expect to see a documentary that will make me cry like this, I don’t know how to explain it, painful and so beautiful at the same time” said Alexander Kounchev, a student at the South-West University "Neofit Rilski" in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. “Blood Brother” will make even the hardest hearts melt because of its sensitive and intimate approach to the subject. The film also represents Rocky's self-discovery and documents his transformation. It all truly started when he moved to India and dedicated his life to being a friend, teacher and brother to a group of HIV positive children.
