During the course students will be taught how to frame, develop and defend their positions and ideas. Prof. Phillips said that the lectures will be divided into two sections – half exercises, half lecturing. Phillips also stressed the importance of the abilities to speak well and frame an idea, which are part of the purposes of the course. But what is BLIMUN? It is an abbreviation for Blagoevgrad International Model United Nations Conference, which is part of Model United Nations (MUN). BLIMUN was established in AUBG in 2008. “Its mission is to raise awareness of current and hot issues on the political scene,” said Bojan Mladenovski, co-president of BLIMUN. “Also it aims to familiarize the students with the UN process, to improve their debating skills and political thinking.” [caption id="attachment_9117" align="alignright" width="260" caption="BLIMUN team, source: BLIMUN"][/caption] Mladenovski said that in different countries the participation fee varies from €35 to €100. For BLIMUN 2013 the team will try to make it as cheap as possible, “between €7 and €10.” “We will fight to make it free," he added. BLIMUN 2013 will be held in February 2013. “It will be something like a Model UN simulation,” said Mladenovski. In addition to it the BLIMUN team will prepare seminars, workshops and movie nights.  The topics that will be discussed on the conference are: for the Security Council “The Civil War in Syria” and for the General Assembly “Free Speech Restrictions.” “The official opening will be on the February 14 with a key-note speaker, whose name we want to keep as a secret for now,” said Petia Yankova, vice president of BLIMUN.  “The next three days will be for debates and resolutions.” She said that there will be prices for the best delegates. “Last year we send the winners to Rome, Belgium and Germany for free. They covered only their travel expenses,” said Dobrinka Denkovska, co-president of BLIMUN. “This year I want to find at least two more delegates to send somewhere.” [caption id="attachment_9118" align="alignleft" width="142" caption="Bojan Mladenovski, source: BLIMUN"][/caption] The deadline to apply is December 15th. The previous year there were applicants from 30 countries and 25 were approved. “Trust me,” said Mladenovski, “it is a lot of fun.” You can get additional information on www.aubg.bg/modelun/
