This week we will see the revival of an old tradition for AUBG-ers or how AURA will turn your regular Tuesday night out into an “initiative.” Eight teams, four rounds of drinking games and a prize at the end is what makes Aura Drinking Initiative a true AUBG specialty. The event was a popular form of entertainment way back when the dinosaurs ruled, the “old Underground” was still working and the senior class was just a handful of confused freshmen. “We wanted to bring the tradition back now, since the last people who remember it are graduating this year. We didn’t want to break the chain,“ said Temenuzhka Panayotova, head of the Sales Department at AURA. The idea about it came from the Radio’s seniors.“The whole crew, which is now 40 people, immediately got enthusiastic about it, and we hope it will be the same for the rest of the AUBG-ers,” Panayotova added. Back in 2010 Petar Marinov and Daria Trifonova (both AURA alumni class of '11) were the hosts and among the main organizers of the Initiative. It was meant to create a new twist on drinking games, different than the traditional Beerpong tournaments. "The Drinking Initiative also had games with the audience only and this is how everyone was involved," Trifonova explained. The event died out simply because most of its organizers became seniors and lacked the time to upkeep it. The first round this Tuesday will be Flip the Cup and one of the hosts will be Christian Hammerdorfer. The other host and the rest of the games, as well as the prize for the winning team, is kept as a surprise. The eight teams will be competing under the rules of direct elimination until only one of them remains. For the audience there will be promotions and opportunities to win some free drinks by completing smaller challenges. (…) I know I am enthusiastic about something like that with finals week just around the corner.” Panayotova explained the Drinking Initiative will come to show that AURA is all about bringing our community together, and since AUBG students love to be a part of the team and compete among each other, the recipe should be successful. “This year we will be focusing on quality, not quantity. (…) We are working on many projects, and our 20th birthday is coming up, so do expect an eventful Spring semester,” she added. As for the alumni point of view, the only thing Trifonova regrets is not being able to participate again: " I understood they are planning on hosting it during the week, which is a problem for a working person like me. So in this sense I am a little bit jealous and nostalgic." Every time the Initiative takes place there will be different games and prizes introduced. There are detailed instructions on how to support the event in AURA’s Facebook event. It will all take place in club Underground on Tuesday, November 27. If you are not fast enough to be one of the eight teams for this week, you will be put on a waiting list – one that does not involve using OCC masterpieces like NetClassroom.
