The Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM) will launch a daily note that is going to be called “AUBG Today” on April 1. The lead on this project is taken by Sonya A. Volkhonskaya, Web Content Editor and Producer in OCM, with the help of prof. Mark Wollemann, who is also working this semester with the OCM as a “consulting editor and communications adviser.” The purpose of “AUBG Today” is to replace the infinite number of emails our community receives every day. The chosen name was voted for on OCM's Facebook page. The daily brief will contain information about the “entire AUBG Community, including social events, club events, academic and guest lectures, distinguished visitors, and give other updates on student, faculty, staff and alumni life," Volkhonskaya said. "We also plan to add in some entertaining things like a quote of the day and a retrospective on each particular day in history." Prof. Wollemann added, “Our goal is to be the “one-stop-shop” for all AUBG communication. We hope "AUBG Today" will replace the flood of emails we all get about upcoming events and issues. We want it to be the first place you turn when you’re wondering what’s happening on campus – today, tomorrow, next week, whenever.” "This seems like a great idea to consolidate the communication of events and important news/updates, and I hope it will be a great success,” is the opinion of Petar Agov, fourth-year student at AUBG. Moreover, he believes that we should have came up with that sooner. Bogdan Dimitrov, first-year student, said, “It will be perfect if you can ensure that all events are shown on one platform and not spread out across different websites, e-mails and Facebook groups.” The daily note is not going to be a substitute for the student government communication. All of the upcoming updates for the events will be forwarded to the OCM email (inside@aubg.edu), from where they will be sorted and sent to the AUBG community by date and subject matter. Mark Wollemann also shared that the OCM will mostly rely on student clubs' presidents to keep them informed, but everyone can send them emails. The main reason for the brief to be launched is to help the whole University by keeping it updated on all fronts. Thus, everyone can plan their schedules with the knowledge of all of the events. The idea of the OCM is accepted by Borislava Stancheva, second-year student, who shared, “I like the idea because I will feel well-informed without the thousands of annoying emails we receive during the day.” “I think it is a good idea since it will reduce the number of emails we receive each day and it will provide up to date information about things happening on campus,” Valentina Stoyanova, fourth-year student, gave her approval as well. Prof. Wollemann has the expectation that “AUBG Today” will change in the future as it will “include more and better content.” He revealed they are searching for heard on campus, and they want to “start with a daily profound, insightful, or humorous quote from a professor in the classroom.” For the last one, they need students to take note of those quotes and send them to their email (inside@aubg.edu). If the professor being quoted approves, the best ones are going to be published. Desislava Panayotova, third-year student, said, “Now people are not checking all the emails that are sent, because we pay attention to only the important ones from our professors. However, if this is implemented and posted in any social media, we will pay more attention because these are the places where we go to find out more about the things happening around us.” “I think it will be a very helpful tool. Ever since SG stopped sending the allstud emails it's hard for me to keep track of what's happening on campus and checking this daily note would give me all the information about it,” was the positive comment of Tsvetiana Zaharieva, second-year student.
