Following was the day-long event on Sunday which took place at the Porter Baseball Field in Bachinovo Park. The multi-sport Olympiad lasted for more than 9 hours, starting from 9:30 a.m. and finishing at around 7 p.m. This year the marathon started from Main Building and was executed with the help of the local municipality. Dragomir Kyosev, Olympics’ president and fourth-year student,  said that the team had to employ more resources for the event including fencing some part of the city center and regulating traffic on a busy street. As for the swimming competition, Olympics managed to book the newly built swimming pool and “ensure all the necessary conditions for the enthusiasts to participate”. Kyosev also said that the major challenge Olympics faced this year was the gathering of sufficient funds for the event. He said that the team’s budget was “severely cut” at the beginning of the academic year. However, it only stimulated the team’s sponsorship department whose members quickly found new sponsor partners. All participants had to sign up for the discipline through the website in advance or could check-in on the spot. Apart from the sports, there was an all-day wall-climbing and charity games. Throughout the day, the Olympics crew raised around 1200 BGN that will go to help Natali, a little girl who needs cerebral palsy treatment. At Bachinovo, the biggest challenge to both the organizers and the participants turned out to be the weather conditions. Although sunny in the noon hours, it hailed twice and rain once in the afternoon stopping the games three times. According to Olympics’ member and fourth-year student EtjenYemeraj, the organization was “spectacular” despite the awful weather. He said that everyone from the team showed up at 6.30 a.m. sharp to go to the field and make the event possible. The major challenge he faced was drawing the lines on the soccer, volleyball, and dodgeball fields since the rain stopped the games several times. Ymeraj said he had to change three hoodies because he got wet from the rain but it was “totally worth seeing that we made that day memorable.” This year second-year student DimitarBratovanov was one of the table tennis organizers which he said was “quite the challenge”. According to him, almost all of the participants who had signed up for this sport wanted to participate in other disciplines as well. The challenge organizers had to be flexible and to constantly readjust the match-up list to give everyone a chance to experience “all aspects of the Olympian fiery spirit”.  [caption id="attachment_32107" align="aligncenter" width="761"]Photo Credits: AUBG Olympics Photo Credits: AUBG Olympics[/caption] Lyuben Popov, a second-year student, was among the winners with the most medals. He said that he appreciated that the Olympics crew did everything in their power to make sure the event took place. Popov won medals in tennis, table tennis, and volleyball. He took part in the tennis and volleyball disciplines for a second consecutive year. As for the meteorologic conditions, Popov suggested that the Olympics crew have two alternative dates in the future in case of bad weather. Borys Khodan brought home four medals. He won 1st place on the marathon, 1st place in soccer, 2nd place in table tennis (doubles), and 3rd place in running (4x100m relay). According to him, the bad weather made the event “even more fun”.  Khodan said that he always overslept for the marathon and for several other disciplines in previous years. Since he is graduating, this year was his last chance and he “finally made it to the Olympics on time”.
“In this awful weather as it was, here is the time to thank the university community for once again proving that no unfavorable circumstances can beat down their spirit and desire to compete in numerous sports disciplines. On this day, I believe, we all succeeded in finding #theherowithin,” Olympics’ president Dragomir Kyosev said.
