AUBG Chess Club had its first introductory meeting on Friday, February 24 in Skaptopara 1 Multi Purpose Room. Around 15 students showed up. Professional instructor, Georgi Angelov, played one game with each one of them and the president of the club, Irma Geldiashvili talked about the future plans of the club. "I love playing chess and I have been playing it since childhood. And I thought it would be great to have a Chess Club on campus," said Geldiashvili. "It is a great opportunity for the students who enjoy playing chess." Chess Club is aiming to popularize chess in the AUBG community. It is going to meet every Friday at 7:30 p.m. Angelov will supervise and lead the meetings. The club members will not only play chess, but also discuss different games and tactics to advance their level of playing. Two tournaments are going to be organized each semester. One is planned to be among AUBGers only, the ther is a team tournament against South Western University (SWU). "It [opening the Chess Club] is a great idea. I think the meetings will be interesting and lots of students will get involved in the tournaments that the new club promised  to organize," said student Tamar Giorgadze who attended the first meeting. Anyone can become a member of the club, regardless of their level of playing.
